JOB TITLE: Part-Time Biology/Science Lab Teaching Assistant (Davie Campus)              APPLICATION DEADLINE: 08/15/2010

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
The Part-time Biology/Science Lab Teaching Assistant is responsible for facilitating human anatomy, physiology and general biology laboratories at the Davie Campus in Mocksville, NC. Courses will be offered during the day, evening or weekend hours. The Part-time Biology/Science Lab Teaching Assistant reports directly to the Associate Dean, Academic Programs, Davie Campus. Responsibilities: • Promotes College mission, values, and vision • Collaborates with faculty to create meaningful and relevant laboratory learning experiences • Assists faculty in providing appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria • Assists faculty in evaluation of student progress and maintenance and submission of instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy • Carries out a program of self evaluation to determine instructional effectiveness • Explores, assesses, and implements appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes • Maintains a laboratory environment which is clean, safe, and in compliance with laboratory safety standards • Maintains accurate inventory of supplies and equipment • Prepares, breaks down, and cleans laboratories for all science courses • Maintains appropriate accessibility for students, faculty and staff • Participates in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills • Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College  

EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
• Bachelor Degree in Biology or related field from a regionally accredited institution • Coursework or previous work experience emphasizing anatomy and physiology • Prior experience as a teaching assistant or biology tutor • Minor in chemistry • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards

CITY / COUNTY OF JOB: Davie County

JOB HOURS: (1st) Approximately 25 hours per week as required by responsibilities and scheduling. (2nd) Approximately 25 hours per week as required by responsibilities and scheduling. (3rd) Days: Normally Monday - Friday

SALARY / BENEFITS: $12.00-$13.25 per hour based on candidate's education, years of experience, and the state budget /   None

REQUIREMENTS FOR HIRING (min age, education, drug test, skills testing):
Qualifications Required: • Bachelor Degree in Biology or related field from a regionally accredited institution • Coursework or previous work experience emphasizing anatomy and physiology • Skill in the use of computers, MS Office and commitment to use of technology • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies: - Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action - Collaborating and facilitating - Creating and innovating - Anticipating and responding to change - Providing vision and leadership - Assessment of student learning - Engagement and assessment of successful student retention models Qualifications Preferred: • Prior experience as a teaching assistant or biology tutor • Minor in chemistry • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards
