JOB TITLE: Faculty, Nursing              APPLICATION DEADLINE: 09/05/2010

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
The Faculty, Nursing primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, advisement and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, School of Health, Wellness, and Public Safety. The position includes clinical instruction, and instruction in the traditional and online learning environments. The ADN program uses problem-based learning extensively as an instructional strategy. The ADN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and is approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). Responsibilities: • Promotes College mission, values, and vision • Teaches assigned courses on the main campus, satellite locations, and at clinical settings to meet program needs including, but not limited to, day, evening, weekend, and distance courses • Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback • Develops course syllabi and provides appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria • Advises students in academic and employment planning • Recommends appropriate textbooks and other instructional materials • Carries out a program of self evaluation to determine instructional effectiveness • Participate in activities necessary to maintain program accreditation from the NLNAC and meet requirements from the NCBON • Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs • Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy • Attends College meetings • Serves on College committees • Assists in student recruitment and retention, including College-wide marketing initiatives • Assists in the development of institutional policies and regulations • Maintains contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with advances in occupational or academic field • Assists in curriculum development and revision, including distance courses where appropriate • Maintains appropriate office hours and accessibility for students, faculty and staff • Assists in maintaining appropriate Library materials for instructional area • Assists in management of resources such as equipment and budget • Assists in the development of course schedules • Assists in orientation and mentoring of new faculty members • Serves as an advisor or sponsor of student clubs or organizations where appropriate • Participates in College and division level planning and development • Assists in the advisory committee process • Assists in the development of promotional materials • Participates in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills • Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College  

EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
• Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina • Minimum of two calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse • Prior college teaching experience, especially in an associate degree nursing program • Master’s Degree in nursing with a functional emphasis in nursing education • Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods

CITY / COUNTY OF JOB: Davidson County

JOB HOURS: (1st) As required by responsibilities and scheduling. (2nd) As required by responsibilities and scheduling. (3rd) Days: Normally Monday - Friday

SALARY / BENEFITS: $38,952 - $$49,862 depending on candidate's education, years of experience, and the state budget /   State retirement, insurance and other

REQUIREMENTS FOR HIRING (min age, education, drug test, skills testing):
• Master’s Degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution (completion date should be May 2010 at the latest) • Current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina • Minimum of two calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology • Experience with MS Office 2007 • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others • Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies: - Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational action - Collaborating and facilitating - Creating and innovating - Anticipating and responding to change - Providing vision and leadership - Assessment of student learning - Engagement and assessment of successful student retention models
